ABOUT WENDY PIKE
Wendy remains a journalist at heart who, to earn a crust, now writes press releases and newsletters for charities, not-for-profit organisations and local businesses. She is Brentwood Brewery’s press officer.
Finding real life tales more fascinating than fiction, her interests are firmly rooted in non fiction. In any spare time she enjoys dabbling in writing short stories and creative non fiction. She’s glad to be learning all the time and only recently discovered the word logophile and that her name, invented by author J M Barrie, was derived from the word friend.
Her first published article appeared in Over 21 magazine in the 1980s. Writing about her holiday on the Greek Island of Skopelos, she came third in a travel writing competition which stoked the fire of her ambition to become a writer.
Previously Wendy was a reporter and video journalist for ITV Anglia News in Essex and a reporter at The Brentwood Gazette. She also taught journalism to teenagers at Havering College. Wendy is the author of Life is Fab a fundraising book(let) for the NHS charity supporting Epping Breast Unit.
She loves people, words, books, crochet, photography, knitting, cats, real ale, gardening, eating cake and drinking tea, gin, country walks, buying yarn, snake plants, tap dancing, orchids, stationery and chatting to strangers. And, of course, her family and friends.
Wendy is a member of the Society of Women Writers and Journalists (SWWJ).
